Aftermaths (2014)

Collage on carton

The works from the series “Aftermaths” focus on the topic of results of a war, whether real or existing in the minds of the viewers. While depicting the idea of the “small pleasures” of life, the images convey a tragic feeling of the overall absurdity of the worrisome events. “Good” and “bad” stories collide in the collages, forming disturbing combinations of the meanings.

The series was made in 2014 as a reflection to the idea of the proximity of the conflict in Ukraine, and is, in a way, a metaphoric depiction of the irrationality of violence. Despite having geopolitical connotations, this work points out a very personal feeling of emptiness and chaos brought by any war. The idea was further continued in the project “The Morphology of War.”
